Happy Birthday Yaya!

This past weekend we celebrated Yaya's birthday at Firebirds.  It was a good excuse to get out of the house since the weather had been so icky.  I have to admit, I was that parent who brought the portable DVD player so my toddler could watch Shrek.  It was the only thing that would ensure me 2 glasses of wine and a nice dinner for me AND the entire restaurant! (The volume was completely turned down, the boy knows this movie line by line)

You can also see that I broke out the paci for the night too!

Garner is so sweet with Connor, bless her heart!

Connor loves Bobo

(Note to self: I need an iphone 4 so I'll have a flash like this or just charge my camera so I can use that)

Connor is really into birthdays lately, I think part of it is because we celebrated Matt's birthday for about a month.  Who doesn't love "happy cake" on a regular basis?!  Besides eating "happy cake", Connor's next favorite thing is to sing Happy Birthday.  Bless his heart, by the end of the night he was like a broken record!

Bobo was very prepared!

Connor was stained for 2 days from the "happy cake" icing

Happy Birthday Yaya, we love you!!!

Sad Face

This is what I saw on Connor's daily sheet when I picked him up yesterday

Once again, Connor had gotten in trouble for hitting.  This behavior is very out of character for him, I think it may have something to do with the full/super moon this week.  His punishment was not going to Chuckie Cheese (school fundraiser night) and he couldn't watch Shrek.  He could care less about Chuckie Cheese, but not watching Shrek went straight to his heart! There were a lot of tears shed over this and hopefully he has learned his lesson, hitting/misbehaving = NO SHREK.  I'll find out this afternoon. . .

And it begins...

Up until today, parenthood hasn't been that hard.  Yes it has been exhausting (physically and mentally), a test of our patience, and most of all very rewarding.  However, today was a day where I felt a bit of failure.

Here is my conversation with Connor in the hallway at school (after reading a LONG note on the back of his daily paper).

Me: Did you listen today?

C: No. (at least he didn't lie!)

Me: Did you hit your friend today?

C: Yes.

Me: Which friend?

C: Madison.

Me: You need to listen to Ms. Brittany and we DO NOT hit anyone. Do you understand?

C: Yes (with a quivering lip)

He was reminded of how he needs to act at school several times tonight.  I'm hoping tomorrow is a better day and I'm hoping he makes better choices.  Parenthood is truly the hardest job out there! (And I've only has this job for 2 years)

Nothing out of the ordinary

This weekend was like just like any other weekend, except the weather was absolutely PERFECT!

Connor took Cooper for a walk Friday evening

Then he laid on the couch and watched Shrek 3 (I had to order it on demand because I couldn't watch Shrek 1 anymore!)

Saturday Matt worked, so we headed over to help Big Daddy with the new play set Connor got for his birthday.

Big Daddy is so patient with Connor, bless his heart

Gigi and I helped by supervising

Saturday after Matt got off work we rode around town with the windows down.  We made a quick stop at the new park by Grandaddy's house and Connor had a blast going down the slide!

After the park, we headed to Cracker Barrel for dinner.  Connor was SO good during dinner, I think the peg game kept him entertained.

Or could it have been the thrill of organization?

Either way, he was good and we were able to enjoy a nice dinner out!

Our Spring Elf

Connor wore his new pajamas and the first words out of Matt's mouth were "He looks like an elf!".  I couldn't stop smiling the whole time he was running around the house.

Grandaddy is in town and he stopped by to see Connor.  Unfortunately, Connor was on a sugar high from a chocolate chip cookie and was basically bouncing off the walls!  Finally towards the end of the visit he started to calm down.  Then they practiced their ABC's...

Say it isn't so...

Connor has gone exactly 2 full weeks without a potty accident (at home and school) and I couldn't be more proud of him.  Of course he still wears a pull up at nap time and night time, but other than that it's strictly undies.  For a little reward he got to go to Toys R Us and pick out a toy (he picked a bowling set).  Then we headed to Yogurt Mountain for a sweet treat.  All in all, we had a great Saturday morning!

Since he isn't wearing a diaper anymore, his clothes fit a lot looser.  I really have no idea what size shorts he'll wear this summer.

The rest of the weekend was spent relaxing.  Saturday night, Gigi and Big Daddy watched Connor while Matt and I ate at Genghis Grill.  The food is really good, but the wait was unbelievable!  Today Matt and Connor are trying to get over some kind of cold, so it was a very low key day.

Best Buddies

This kid kills me with his organization

Looking at airplanes

He really might have a small case of OCD!  I thought he was going to lose it when Cooper accidentally knocked one off...he started yelling "say sorry Cooper!"

Sweet boy! (side note: his lips/eczema are looking really good lately)

He looks like a big kid more and more everyday!

Off to another work week! (I wonder who thought up the theory of working 5 days and having a 2 day weekend.)

Cutest Backpacks

So I've been on the hunt for the last couple months for the perfect backpack for Connor.  The older he gets the less stuff we have to pack for our outings.  I wanted something that was personalized, boyish, and I wanted a zipper. What better place to look other than Etsy?!

After a quick search...Voilà! I found Terri at InspiredByGrands and she couldn't have been more helpful through the entire process.  I, like always, had a list of questions which she patiently answered each one of them.  The turnaround time was quick and the product was even cutier in person!

I order one for Connor, but I couldn't pass up on a girly backpack for sweet Brinkley!

Aren't they so cute

The straps were as cute as the front

Terri also included a cute tissue holder with each backpack (Connor's tissue holder wasn't pink, it had trucks on it...just wanted to clarify)

He hasn't quite figured out how to put it on

He looks like a BIG kid about to go to school (slight tear)

Weekend Recap

Our weekend was so laid back, that Connor didn't change out of his pajamas all weekend!  Matt worked Saturday so Connor and I cleaned the house, watched Shrek and Nemo more time than I can count, and relaxed.  Saturday night we ordered Memphis Pizza Cafe (which was delish) and caught up on our DVR'd shows.

On Sunday, Matt had to work for a couple of hours so Connor and I slept in until 9!  Sleeping until 9 is unheard of in our house these days, apparently Connor was exhausted from cleaning all day (like me). The rest of the day consisted of playing and a nap for Connor.

Clipping his nails (not really)

Chapstick application #1

Chapstick application #200

Nothing better than playing basketball in the foyer!

Sword fight

Our weekend wouldn't be complete without a few meltdowns

Organizing the sprite

He probably lined them up and put them back in the box about 6 times

Matt was teaching Connor how to stack cups, oh the little things in life!
